How India's Started

India’s Hamster Rescue started as a result of one special hamster, called India. India was rescued by Chelsea back in 2020, and after seeing the sheer number of hamsters living in unethical and unsafe conditions, Chelsea decided to start her own rescue and run it from her own home.

Fast forward to 2025, India’s Hamster Rescue team has grown to a team of dedicated fosterers, with foster bases across the UK, stretching from Cornwall to Peterborough. Together, they have rescued and rehabilitated over 400 hamsters, each one given a fresh start and a chance to thrive.

In July 2025, India’s Hamster Rescue reached an important milestone by becoming a registered charity, officially recognised with a charity number. This achievement marks a new chapter in their journey, allowing them to expand their work and reach even more hamsters in need.

The rescue is committed to providing high standards of care, raising awareness about proper hamster welfare, and ensuring every hamster they help finds a safe, happy forever home.
